Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor has given a sharp reaction and condemned the decision of BCCI. He said that it is wrong to punish any cricketer because of the political situation of his country. Tharoor shared a post regarding this matter on social media platform X on Saturday (January 3, 2026). In his post, he expressed his disagreement with BCCI’s decision and asked that if this player was from another religion, would BCCI have taken a similar decision?

The Congress leader said, ‘I am reiterating my old views on this matter. Now that BCCI has condemnably dropped Mustafizur Rahman, what if that Bangladesh player was Liton Das or Soumya Sarkar? Who are we punishing here? To a country, to a person or to his religion? Where will this absurd politicization of sports take us?
KKR released Bangladeshi player
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman, who was bought for Rs 9.2 crore, from the team. The board also assured the franchise that after replacing Mustafizur Rahman, permission would be given to sign a new player, after which KKR released Rahman from the team.
