The situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated rapidly after the murder of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi and mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das. This not only gave rise to widespread protests within the country, but also plunged India-Bangladesh relations into another diplomatic crisis. The effect of this tense situation is visible from Dhaka to Delhi.
On 23 December 2025, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested fiercely in Delhi. There was a clash between Delhi Police and VHP workers and the police took many workers into custody. The effigy of Mohammad Yunus has also been burnt in this demonstration.
Due to increasing tension between India and Bangladesh, visa services are suspended, questions are being raised on the security of embassies and concern has also increased at the international level.
At 10 am on 23 December 2025, the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma. This is the second time in a week that the Indian High Commissioner was called. He was instructed to tighten the security of all embassies and related bases.
Earlier, Pranay Verma was also summoned on 14 December. Then Bangladesh had expressed concern over Sheikh Hasina’s continuous provocative statements.
On 22 December 2025, Hindu organizations and minority groups protested in front of the National Press Club of Dhaka against the murder of Dipu in Bangladesh. The protesters said that Deepu was innocent. He was falsely accused of blasphemy. After this, the fundamentalists beat him badly, hanged him from a tree and then burnt him alive.
The protesters said that the situation in Bangladesh is continuously worsening. He claims that since January this year, more than 50 non-Muslims have been murdered and false cases of blasphemy have been registered against many people.
