Baramati Plane Crash: Big action in Ajit Pawar plane crash case, DGCA bans four planes of VSR Ventures

After the Learjet 45 plane crash that occurred in Baramati on January 28, 2026, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken strict action. After conducting a special safety audit of M/s VSR Ventures Private Limited, DGCA has grounded four Learjet 40/45 aircraft of the company with immediate effect.

This decision was taken after the plane crash that took place in Baramati on January 28. In this, five people including former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar were killed due to the crash of Learjet 45 of VSR Ventures.

Flight Safety- Many flaws related to flight operations have been found

According to a press note issued by the DGCA, the multidisciplinary audit team found several serious deficiencies in compliance with approved rules related to airworthiness, flight safety and flight operations. The audit also revealed deficiencies in maintenance processes.

In view of these irregularities, DGCA has banned the flights of Learjet 40/45 aircraft with registration numbers VT-VRA, VT-VRS, VT-VRV and VT-TRI. These aircraft will not be able to fly until continued airworthiness standards are fully restored.

What instructions did DGCA give to the company?

DGCA has directed the company to submit the root cause analysis by issuing deficiency reporting form. Further action will be taken after receiving the report. This action is being seen as a strict stance towards aircraft safety. DGCA has made it clear that any compromise with safety standards will not be tolerated.

Why was this decision taken?
The audit ran from 4 to 16 February. In this, the team led by Deputy Director General RK Anand has discussed all the aspects related to the company. In this, shortcomings related to non-following of necessary procedures, negligence in maintenance and safety standards have come to light.

Apart from these, the results have forced DGCA to take strict action. This will prevent such accidents from happening in future. This issue was examined prominently in the audit. Now this will be helpful in deciding the responsibility of the company in future.
