Indian Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) foiled a major conspiracy by detecting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Janbajpora area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. A potentially major accident was averted by timely action, because an army convoy was about to pass through this route.
According to Army sources, based on routine patrolling and intelligence input, 46 Rashtriya Rifles identified suspicious activity in Janbajpora area. During the search operation an IED was recovered on the roadside. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately called to the spot. The expert team cordoned off the area and safely defused the explosive device following standard security procedures. During this entire operation, nearby citizens were kept at a safe distance, so that there was no loss of life.
There was potential danger to the army convoy
According to sources, an army convoy was about to pass through the same route on which the IED was found. If this explosive was not caught on time, serious damage could have been caused. This quick action of the army not only ensured the safety of the soldiers, but also saved the local civilians from possible danger. This incident shows that the security forces are constantly alert and ready to deal with any threat.
Security tightened in the area
After the incident, the search operation has been intensified in the entire area. Security agencies are trying to find out who had planted the IED and for what purpose. Investigation is ongoing to identify suspicious elements. Such incidents have been reported in the past also in Baramulla and surrounding sensitive areas. In such a situation, the activeness of the security forces and the strength of the intelligence system are considered very important.
