A survey conducted by the Congress government of Karnataka regarding the Lok Sabha elections 2024 has revealed the strong trust of the public on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). According to the survey, more than 83 percent people have said that they consider EVMs trustworthy. After this report came to light, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been raising questions on the election process and the credibility of EVMs for a long time.
What came out in the survey
In this survey named ‘Lok Sabha Election 2024- Evaluation of Inline Survey of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Citizens’, 83.61% people considered EVMs trustworthy. At the same time, 69.39% people believed that EVM gives correct results, while 14.22% completely agreed with this.
Feedback taken from 5,100 people
This survey was conducted in 102 assembly constituencies of Karnataka. This included 5,100 people from Bengaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Mysuru administrative divisions. This survey was conducted by the Karnataka government through Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar.
In which area EVM is most trusted?
Division wise, maximum confidence was seen in Kalaburagi. Here 83.24% people considered EVMs trustworthy, 11.24% completely agreed. In Mysuru, 70.67% people expressed their trust in EVMs, and 17.92% claimed to have strong faith in EVMs. In Belagavi, 63.90% people seemed to agree and 21.43% expressed complete agreement. In Bengaluru division this figure was 63.67% and 9.28%.
BJP’s counterattack – ‘Karnataka has told the truth’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been continuously accusing BJP and Election Commission of alleged EVM malfunction and ‘vote theft’ in the elections. Responding to the survey, BJP Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition R. Ashok wrote on But the people of Karnataka have told a completely different story today.
BJP said that it is clear from this statewide survey that people trust elections, trust EVMs and trust the democratic process of India. The party called it a ‘slap on the face’ for Congress.
‘Question the institutions when they lose, celebrate when they win’
Accusing Congress of double standards, BJP said that ‘Congress questions the institutions when it loses and celebrates the same system when it wins. This is not politics of principles, but of convenience.
