Bharat Hindu Samaj Mandir gets relief from British High Court in the case of sale of mosque.

A 40-year-old Hindu temple and community center located in Peterborough city of Britain has received relief from the London High Court in the case of selling its premises to the highest bidder. Bharat Hindu Samaj Mandir was established in 1986 in the city’s New England Complex.

Justice Michael Fordham last week issued an order blocking any irreversible steps related to the disposal of the New England complex. A court report published in the Peterborough Telegraph quoted Justice Fordham as saying, ‘It appears that the defendant (Peterborough City Council) has created this situation itself.’

Justice Michael Fordham said, ‘The court has asked for instructions, but I have not seen any concrete response and no transparency about the practical situation.’

The temporary relief comes after a judicial review petition was filed by the Bharat Hindu Samaj charity, which launched an online ‘Go Fund Me’ appeal to raise funds for its legal challenge against the sale of the premises and has quickly raised almost £36,000 of its £86,000 target.

Through court documents, the group learned that the entity bidding to acquire the property on behalf of the council was Masjid Khadija and the Islamic Center of Khadija Masjid. Bharat Hindu Samaj says, ‘The result will be that in future one religious group will be the owner of a premises, while the other religious group will be the tenant in it.’

Bharat Hindu Samaj said, ‘We are now taking legal action to completely challenge the decision taken by the council to sell the premises as our legal experts consider the said process to be unfair and illegal.’
