Big help from India in Sri Lanka’s Jaffna, connectivity will be restored through 120 feet dual bridge.

The Indian Army is rapidly engaged in restoration work in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, which was badly affected by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’. Under this, the Indian Army has started a major engineering operation in Jaffna. The Engineer Task Force of the Indian Army is working on providing connectivity to the 120-foot long dual carriageway Bailey Bridge here.

The Indian Army said on Friday (December 19, 2025) that it has started the process of launching the Bailey Bridge, which will again provide main road connectivity to the region. This route is very important for providing connectivity in this entire area. According to the Indian Army, their engineering squad has completed important preparatory work before the bridge launching. The biggest step in the army’s preparation was to safely remove the damaged old bridge already present here.

The old damaged bridge has been removed and the debris of that bridge has been completely cleared. Strong pile foundation has been constructed on both sides of the bridge, so that the bridge can bear more load. After the completion of these foundation works, the Indian Army has now started fitting and launching the Bailey Bridge.

According to the Army, this bridge will work to connect important areas of Sri Lanka. After the opening of this bridge, vehicular movement will start here. After this Bailey Bridge comes into operation, the connectivity of the broken roads of Jaffna area will also be restored. There will be normal traffic between important towns like Paranthan and Mullaitivu. At the same time, relief materials, medical aid and humanitarian aid will rapidly reach the affected areas.

According to the Army, this construction work will speed up the daily movement and business activities of the local people. Cyclone Ditvah had caused major devastation in Sri Lanka. Many roads, bridges and important infrastructure have been damaged due to this. In such a situation, this step of the Indian Army will provide great strength to the rehabilitation efforts of the area. The Indian Army has previously assisted Sri Lanka in natural disasters, and this action further strengthens the mutual friendship, trust and regional cooperation between the two countries.
