Dominance of BJP-Shiv Sena alliance
The dominance of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has been seen in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. In the results, Mahayuti alliance achieved a big lead. However, ‘Thackeray Brothers’ (Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) have suffered a big setback in these elections. Shiv Sena-UBT and MNS alliance lagged behind in most of the seats. Voting was held on January 15 for 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra including Mumbai and Thane. The results started coming in on Friday and it became clear that the ‘king’ of Mumbai is BJP-Shiv Sena.
Thackeray brothers’ magic did not work
All eyes were on the election results of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It is clear from the trends that BJP is making deep inroads even in traditional strongholds. With the strong lead of BJP-Shiv Sena, the chances of becoming mayor from the Mahayuti alliance have also increased. ‘Thackeray Brothers’ were hopeful of uniting ‘Marathi Manush’ in the elections. The coalition faced a tough challenge in maintaining its decades-long hold on the city. In a tough contest, Shiv Sena (UBT) won some seats, including Ward 208.
