Blackmailed by threatening to leak RTI data, then robbed MP, youth from Mumbai arrested

Andhra Pradesh News: Andhra Pradesh Police, with the help of Mumbai Local Police, on January 10 arrested a youth resident of Girgaon, who is accused of conspiring to extort Rs 70,000 from an Andhra Pradesh MP by blackmailing him.

It is alleged that he had allegedly asked for money from the Parliament in return for not leaking data related to RTI (Right to Information). The accused has been identified as Vrishant Wadke. According to the police, Wadke along with four of his associates had conspired to extort Rs 5 crore from Sansad, who are still absconding.

Allegation of blackmailing MP on the basis of RTI information

According to the police, Wadke had allegedly obtained some information against the MP through RTI and kept blackmailing him by demanding money from him in return for not sharing the information with central agencies.

After being continuously harassed over the phone, the MP agreed to send his Personal Assistant (PA) to Maydukur in Andhra Pradesh. Whereas, Wadke sent his colleague Harsh Vardhan there in August 2024.

70 thousand rupees looted at knife point from PA in Cuddapah

Harsh Vardhan and his associates allegedly looted Rs 70,000 from the MP at knife point during a meeting held in Cuddapah (YSR) district, police said. Police is trying to catch another accused in this case and further investigation is going on.

Andhra Pradesh Police had registered an FIR against Vrishant Wadke and his four associates under sections 308(5), 351(2), 127(2) and 3(5) of the Indian Act at the Maidukur police station in August.

According to police officials, the Andhra Pradesh Police team reached Mumbai and arrested Vrishant Wadke with the help of Mumbai’s VP Road Police Station on January 9. After completing all the legal formalities, his formal arrest was registered on January 10 and he was produced in the local court of Maydukur.
