Bomb attack attempt outside Zohran Mamdani’s house, 2 suspects in police custody, know the whole matter

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has identified two suspects in an attempted bomb attack outside the Gracie Mansion, the residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani. A video posted by independent news agency FreedomNews shows one suspect handing a bomb to another shortly before his arrest.

According to CNN report, police said that the recovered equipment included a jar wrapped in black tape filled with nuts, bolts, screws and a fuse. Violence erupted during clashes between an anti-Islam protest organized by right-wing influencer Jake Lang and a larger counter-protest during the holy month of Ramadan, leading to two suspicious devices being set on fire and used.

What did the police commissioner tell?
NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said that these objects, slightly smaller than a football, are being analyzed to determine whether they were real explosives or fakes. CNN quoted Commissioner Tisch at a press conference as saying that reflecting the magnitude of the incident, he said, “Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames and smoke flying into the air.

Police investigating the burning thing
CNN reported that about 20 minutes later, an 18-year-old protester threw a burning object towards counter-protesters, which landed on the crossing. After throwing it, the suspect allegedly asked his 19-year-old accomplice to bring another device. He also set fire to some other inflammable object and then threw it on the road as the police advanced. These two were also among the 6 people detained during the police raid.

Mayor Mamdani and his wife Rama Duwaji are safe. The mayor’s spokesperson described the gathering organized by Lang as disgusting and anti-Islamic. He said the incident reminded both of them of the dangers they face every day.
