What did the European countries say in the joint statement?
In a joint statement issued from the office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the leaders of all the countries involved said that we request Iran to immediately stop all efforts to block the path of commercial shipping vessels through its attacks, threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks.
He said that Iran’s attack on merchant ships, oil-gas bases and civilian infrastructure in the Gulf is very serious and such interference in international shipping by closing Hormuz and creating problems in global energy supply is a threat to international peace, security and the entire world. In their statement, these countries have also talked about keeping the energy supply stable, releasing oil reserves if needed and helping the affected countries.
Freedom of navigation fundamental principle of international law: UK
The leaders also said that Iran has entered the 20th day of the war and the Strait of Hormuz is currently effectively closed. Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law. The impact of Iran’s actions will be felt in all parts of the world, especially among those who are most vulnerable.
It is clear from this statement that there is increasing concern about Iran’s retaliatory actions in response to the attacks by America and Israel. Along with this, oil and gas facilities have been damaged due to attacks from both sides, due to which the prices of oil and gas are increasing.
