A British couple has been ordered to leave India for putting up stickers against Israel and in support of Palestine in public places in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Considering this as a serious matter, the intelligence agencies took action, after which the visas of both the foreign nationals were cancelled.
Both came to India on tourist visa
British citizen Lewis Gabriel D and his girlfriend Anushi Emma Christine came to India on tourist visa. He was staying in Pushkar, Rajasthan. On January 21, the Intelligence Department (CID/IB) received information that the couple was pasting stickers at different public places in Ajmer. After this, both were identified on the basis of CCTV footage and local information.
Police interrogated
Considering the matter as serious, the district police was informed. The team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) Rajesh Meena interrogated both of them. Inquiries revealed that both were involved in political activities while on tourist visa, which is a violation of visa rules.
stickers removed, visa canceled
All the stickers were removed with the help of the police. After this, taking action under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, the visas of both were canceled and ‘Leave India Notice’ was issued to them.
There may be a ban on coming to India in future
According to officials, in such cases, foreign nationals can be detained and sent out of the country. Besides, they can also be blacklisted, due to which they will not be able to come to India further. Officials have clearly stated that any kind of political, protest or ideological activity is not allowed on tourist visa.
PM Modi can visit Israel in February
Meanwhile, Israel’s Ambassador to India Reuven Azar told NDTV that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Israel in February. This visit is possible at a time when the situation in West Asia is very sensitive and cooperation between India and Israel in defence, technology, security, trade and innovation is increasing rapidly.
