Budget 2026: Union Budget 2026 has been presented and its impact will be clearly visible on the pockets of common people in the coming months. Many important changes can be seen especially in the sector of consumer technology and home electronics. However, these changes will not happen immediately, but will gradually impact the market. The biggest reason for this is the relief given by the government on some components used in manufacturing.
What will change due to change in import duty?
The government has not given any direct major custom duty cut on products like smartphones, laptops, tablets and wearables in Budget 2026. That means it would not be right to expect an immediate fall in the prices of these products.
However, duty exemption has been given on some parts used in home appliances like microwave. This means that there may be a slight decline in the prices of microwave ovens in the coming time.
Budget and premium smartphones
If you are thinking of buying a new smartphone then do not have too many expectations. There is no direct relief in the prices of neither budget smartphones nor premium flagship phones in Budget 2026. However, in the second half of the year, companies may start providing more features in budget phones or may reduce the price slightly. At the same time, premium smartphones will remain as expensive as before.
Laptop and PC
There is no indication of direct cut in the prices of laptops and PCs either. But the government’s new schemes regarding manufacturing will motivate companies to increase local production. Its advantage may be that in future, users will start getting better specifications and features at the same price.
Hope on smart TV and home electronics
Relief has been given on components used in smart TV, local appliances and home electronics. This creates a good possibility of price reduction in this segment. Although it is not yet clear whether the companies will pass on this benefit directly to the customers or not, the scope for price cut is most visible here.
Focus of AVCG sector and orange economy
The AVCG (Animation, Visual Effects, Comics and Gaming) sector is expected to get a boost under the Orange Economy vision stated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. With this, companies manufacturing gaming accessories and peripherals in India can come forward so that these products can be available at more affordable prices.
