He said that the annual budget is much more than revenue and expenditure. A clear blueprint should be presented to the government to deal with the pressing economic issues. Expressing surprise, he said that I am not sure whether the Finance Minister had read the Economic Survey 2026 or not? Even if they have read it, they have completely ignored it.

These 10 economic challenges were ignored: Chidambaram

The Congress leader said that the 10 economic challenges mentioned in the survey have been ignored. These included many important issues, such as tensions between manufacturers and exporters due to US tariffs, global trade conflict over investment, increasing trade deficit with China, low gross fixed capital formation and weak investment in the private sector, uncertainty in the flow of FDI, continuous outflow of FPI, slow fiscal consolidation, fiscal and revenue deficit in FRBM, official inflation data and rising domestic expenditure on things like education, healthcare and transport, large number Important issues included closure of MSMEs and poor employment conditions, besides deteriorating infrastructure in urban areas. Chidambaram said that none of these issues have been resolved.

Apart from this, he said that the revenue receipt of Rs 78,086 crore was much less than expected. Whereas the total expenditure has been reduced by Rs 1,44,376 crore. This includes deductions from both the Center and the states.
