Jasprit Bumrah once again proved that there is no one better than him in big matches. He created history by taking 3 wickets against South Africa in the Super-8 match of T20 World Cup 2026. With this, Bumrah has become India’s highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 World Cup.
Now he has 33 wickets in his name and he has left behind Ravichandran Ashwin’s record of 32 wickets. Arshdeep Singh (32 wickets), Hardik Pandya (29 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (22 wickets) are also included in this special list, but now only Bumrah’s name is at number-1.

Africa’s comeback after initial shocks
South Africa had a bad start in the match and the team had lost 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. However, after this David Miller and Dewald Brewis took over the innings. There was a quick partnership of 97 runs between the two for the fourth wicket, due to which the score progressed rapidly. After 15 overs, the team reached 144/4 and it seemed that the score could cross 200.
Bumrah’s wonder in death overs
This is where Bumrah changed the course of the match. He broke the pace of the African innings by dismissing important batsmen like Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch. His accurate yorkers and slow balls in the death overs did not give the batsmen a chance to play freely.
Arshdeep Singh also played brilliantly and Africa lost three wickets in the last four overs. However, Tristan Stubbs hit some big shots in the end and took the score to 187/7.

It is not easy to perform consistently in a big tournament like the T20 World Cup. Bumrah has shown that he is a player on the big stage by taking 33 wickets in just 22 innings. His line-length and ability to remain calm under pressure has become the biggest strength for Team India.
