‘Change the name of Andaman Nicobar to Azad Hind’, on Netaji’s birth anniversary. Kavita wrote a letter to PM Modi

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, President of Telangana Jagruti and former MP from Nizamabad seat, Kalvakuntla Kavitha has placed a big demand before the Modi government at the Centre. He has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard, advocating changing the name of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to ‘Azad Hind’. During a program organized at the Telangana Jagriti office in Banjara Hills, Kavita targeted the BJP and said that the party should not make political use of Netaji’s name like ‘Bhagyanagar’.

Kavita spoke to the media after meeting with the leaders of All India Forward Bloc in the program. He said that the name of Andaman and Nicobar is a gift of the British rule and considering Netaji’s contribution to the country’s independence, it should be changed in his honour. He said that Jagriti fully supports the demand of Forward Bloc on this issue.

Hashtag movement will be run on social media

Kavita has announced to start a hashtag movement on Twitter on 26 January. He said that this demand will be conveyed across the country through Jagriti’s network. Kavita recalled Netaji’s struggle and said that despite becoming an IAS officer (in which he achieved fourth rank), he did not exploit his countrymen for the sake of British interests and jumped into the freedom struggle.

He also made a sharp attack on the present government and said that today the governments are unable to give 33 percent reservation to women, whereas at that time Netaji had given courage to women to fight by giving them guns and had formed Jhansi Lakshmibai Regiment.

Questions raised on BJP’s promise of Bhagyanagar?

Kavita also raised questions about BJP’s ‘Bhagyanagar’ promise. He said that during the GHMC elections, BJP had promised to change the name of Hyderabad, but later abandoned it temporarily for political gains. He said that to save the legacy of a great leader like Netaji, Andaman and Nicobar should be named ‘Azad Hind’, so that it remains a reminder of his sacrifice for the country.
