A report published in ESPNcricinfo said that the 2026 IPL will start from March 28. It was further said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI had earlier decided that the tournament would start 2 days earlier i.e. from March 26. On December 15, IPL had informed all the franchises that the next season’s tournament would start from March 26.
When will the final be held?
It was further told that the title match of the tournament starting from March 28 will be played on May 31. It is believed that the IPL Governing Council will meet next week to finalize the plan for releasing the schedule. The delay in the schedule is due to non-announcement of assembly election dates in Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Since Kolkata (West Bengal) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) are the home grounds of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) respectively. Guwahati, the capital of Assam, is the second home ground of Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Since the inception of IPL in 2008, whenever general elections have been held in the country or assembly elections have been held in any state, the schedule has been released in two parts. This may be seen this time also. However, the second thing is that at present no official update has come from BCCI. Now it will be interesting to see when the schedule is released by BCCI.
