Canada School Shooting: At least 10 people, including the suspected attacker, were killed, while about 25 people were injured in a firing incident at a secondary school in Canada’s Tumbler Ridge town on Tuesday. Police said that at present, information regarding the identity of the victims, the reason for the attack and the circumstances of the entire incident has not been shared.
According to police, on February 10 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Tumbler Ridge RCMP received a report of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. After this the police issued a public alert and teams reached the spot. Police said in a statement that as soon as the information was received, immediate action was taken.
The suspect was also found dead
Police said the suspected attacker was also found dead and initially it appeared to be a case of self-inflicted injury. Investigators are also looking into whether any other suspect was also involved in this incident. According to the police, apart from the suspect, bodies of six more people were found inside the school. Two of the injured were airlifted to the hospital in critical or life-threatening condition, while another injured died on the way to the hospital.
Treatment of about 25 people continues
Police said that about 25 other people have been brought to the local medical center for examination and treatment. Everyone’s treatment is ongoing. An emergency alert was sent to the mobile phones of people in Tumbler Ridge and surrounding areas. In this, the suspect’s appearance was described as ‘a woman with brown hair, wearing a dress’. People were asked to stay indoors and stay away from the area. Police said, ‘People living in the Tumbler Ridge area should stay indoors, keep doors closed and do not go out at this time. All other people should stay away from this area and follow the instructions of the police.
Local leaders keeping an eye on the situation
Local leaders said they are monitoring the situation and working closely with the provincial government. Peace River South MLA Larry Neufeld said that he is returning from Victoria immediately so that he can support the people of his area. After the incident, additional police forces have been sent from nearby areas for help, so that the situation can be handled.
