Congress Party has announced the names of its six candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held in Telangana. Among these, senior Congress leader and famous legal expert Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been made the candidate from Telangana. The party has also approved the name of V. Narendra Reddy. Both the candidates are going to file their nominations on Thursday.
It is being told that names of many leaders were in discussion for these two seats. These included the names of many senior leaders including former MLA Mashi Chandra Reddy, former MP V. Hanumantha Rao, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Chinna Reddy, Vinay Kumar and Kasam Kumar. However, ultimately the name of V. Narendra Reddy was finalized after the suggestion of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Recently two seats of Telangana Rajya Sabha have become vacant.
Both these seats have come into existence due to the recently vacant Rajya Sabha seats. Abhishek Manu Singhvi has again been made a candidate on one of these seats. Singhvi was earlier elected to the Rajya Sabha in the by-election held in 2024, when K. Keshav Rao had resigned from his post. At that time Singhvi got a tenure of only two years. For this reason, considering his legal expertise and experience, the Congress Party has decided to give him another chance.
V. Narendra Reddy very close to the Chief Minister of Telangana
On the other hand, V. Narendra Reddy is counted among the very close associates of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Narendra Reddy originally belongs to Mahabubabad district. He became MLA from Mahabubabad assembly constituency in the 2004 assembly elections by winning the election on Telugu Desam Party ticket. Later he joined Congress along with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
After joining Congress, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also appointed him as his special advisor. The party leadership believes that his political experience and organizational hold will strengthen the party in the Rajya Sabha. Political analysts believe that the announcement of these names by Congress is an indication of a new strategy in the coming days in Telangana politics. The party leadership wants to strengthen its political position at the national level by sending experienced and reliable leaders to the Rajya Sabha.
