On Monday (23 February) in Patna, the capital of Bihar, chowkidars and dafadars protested regarding their demands. The clerks and watchmen were trying to move forward by breaking the barricades at the Dak Bungalow intersection in Patna. When the protest became violent, the police chased away the protestors by lathi charge. Now Congress reacted to this and called it the ‘dictatorship’ of the BJP-JDU government of Bihar.
Congress targets BJP-JDU
Congress posted a video of police lathicharge on protesters from its official account on social media platform X and wrote, ‘Look at the dictatorship of the BJP-JDU government of Bihar. The watchmen were protesting peacefully and raising their demands. The government sent police and lathicharged them. Many watchmen are seriously injured. Narendra Modi and BJP governments do not tolerate the voice of opposition. They are engaged in suppressing the rights given in the Constitution.
It was further written in the post, ‘In Bihar, retired watchmen have been lathicharged by running on the streets. These are the people who have been responsible for law and order and security for years, and today came out on the streets peacefully to press for their demands.

Chowkidars and dafadars are demanding jobs in place of their ancestors. Apart from this, demands for increase in honorarium and service related improvements are also included. Protests were going on in Patna regarding this on Monday. Speaking to news agency PTI, Patna Central SP Mamta Kalyani said, “Police had to resort to lathicharge due to law and order situation being disrupted at the spot by the protesters. She said that several watchmen were injured in the lathicharge, although no one was seriously injured.
