The Congress Party has taken a big decision to strengthen its law department at the grassroots level. In an important meeting of the party’s National Legal Department on Wednesday (January 7, 2026), it was decided to organize people associated with Law Department, RTI and Human Rights up to the Tehsil level across the country.
After the meeting, Congress National Legal Department President Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that now a core team of five members related to Law Department, RTI and Human Rights will be formed at the district level, which will conduct legal activities at the local level.
Organizational structure will be completed in 4 to 6 weeks
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that legal department heads of about 10-11 states of the country attended the meeting. In states where presidents have not been appointed, appointments will be made soon. A target has been set to complete the entire process in 4 to 6 weeks.
Consensus reached on Rapid Response Legal Force
It was also agreed in the meeting to create a Rapid Response Force. Which will be able to make effective legal arguments in the court immediately if needed. This force will be formed state wise.
All India Legal Directory will be made
At the same time, an important decision was also taken in the meeting to prepare an All India Directory. In which the names of people associated with the Law Department, Human Rights Department and RTI Department will be recorded in alphabetical order at the state, district and tehsil level.
Whereas Congress is now preparing to start an internship program to connect young lawyers and law-related youth (21–28/30 years age group) from outside the party. Under this, the selected youth will work as interns with the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. If this experiment is successful then the same model will be implemented with MLAs in future also.
Model related to Rahul Gandhi’s organizational strategy
Singhvi said that just as Rahul Gandhi has emphasized on setting up organizations at the district level, now the legal, RTI and human rights departments will also be expanded on the same model. At the same time, a detailed report regarding all the decisions taken in the meeting will be submitted to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
