Congress releases first list of 55 candidates for Kerala Assembly elections, state president Sunny Joseph will contest from Peravoor

Congress has released the first list of candidates for the Kerala Assembly elections 2026. Names of a total of 55 candidates have been announced in the first list. Congress state president Sunny Joseph has been made the candidate from Peravur seat. At the same time, the party has again given ticket to Leader of Opposition in the Assembly VD Satheesan from Paravur, he is the current Congress MLA from here. Apart from this, Ramesh Chennithala has been fielded from Haripad, Ramya Haridas from Chirayinkeezhu.

Former CM Chandy’s son will contest elections from Puthupulli

Senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan has been made the candidate from Vattiyoorkau. Chandy Oommen, son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has been given the ticket from Puthuppalli. He is currently the MLA from here. The Central Election Committee (CEC) of Congress had approved the names of these candidates for Kerala on Tuesday itself.

Congress CEC meeting was held on Tuesday

On Tuesday (March 17), a meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress was held, in which the names of candidates for the Kerala Assembly elections were brainstormed. After this, now the list of candidates has been released. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, State in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi and many other leaders attended the meeting. After the meeting, Venugopal said, ‘The party’s Central Election Committee has approved many names today. The probability of winning is a major criterion for selecting candidates.

At the same time, Pranab Vacchrajani (National Convenor) and Vipin Yadav (National Coordinator) have been appointed to coordinate the upcoming election related activities of the social media department of Kerala Congress.

When will elections be held in Kerala?

Voting for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections will be held on April 9 while the results will be released on May 4. Nominations will be filed from March 23. Their scrutiny will be done on March 24. Withdrawal of nominations can be done till 26th March.
