Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka Series Postponed: The Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka series has been postponed amid the bad conditions in the Middle East. The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Tuesday confirmed that the series against Sri Lanka is being postponed due to the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran. This series was to be played in UAE. 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches were to be played between the two teams from 13 March to 25 March.
According to Cricbuzz, Afghanistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Naseeb Khan said that the series with Sri Lanka is being postponed. He told that apart from the war situation in UAE, there were problems related to air travel and logistics.
Naseeb Khan also revealed that it was considered to hold all the matches of the series in Sri Lanka, but at that time no flights were available from UAE to Sri Lanka. In a very short time, problems would arise ranging from hotel booking to ground and security arrangements. At present the series has been postponed and it can be conducted in the last quarter of the year.
Especially the T20 series against Sri Lanka was going to be special, because recently Rashid Khan was stripped of the captaincy of the T20 team. This would have been the first series when Afghanistan’s T20 team would have played under the captaincy of Ibrahim Zadran.
Afghanistan and Sri Lanka were recently seen playing in the T20 World Cup 2026. On one hand, Afghanistan team could not progress beyond the group stage. The Afghan team could not repeat the performance of 2024, where it had reached the semi-finals. Despite being the co-host of the tournament, Sri Lanka was eliminated in the Super-8 stage itself.
