Demand to bring petrol and diesel under GST and revise toll tax, transport organizations appealed to the government.

Amid rising inflation and transportation costs in the country, the All India Motor and Goods Transport Association has demanded the Central Government to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST and rationalize the toll tax being collected on national and state highways. The organization says that the current system has put the transport sector under economic pressure, which is directly impacting the general public.

President of All India Motor and Goods Transport Association, Rajendra Kapoor, while talking to the team of ABP Live, said that the transport sector is considered the backbone of the country’s economy, because about 80 to 90 percent of the country’s goods are transported by road. In such a situation, the continuous increase in fuel prices and inconsistent toll tax rates are directly affecting the entire economic structure.

Fuel and toll increased operating costs

According to the association, about 60 to 65 percent of the total operating cost of a heavy goods vehicle is spent on fuel alone. Along with this, there has been an average annual increase of 8 to 10 percent in toll rates in the last few years, whereas there is no visible improvement in the roads and facilities in the same proportion.

Rajendra Kapoor said that trucks traveling long distances have to cross many toll plazas, which wastes time, fuel and money. Unnecessary delays and chaos at toll plazas make transportation more expensive and complicated.

Major demands of the association

All India Motor and Goods Transport Association has clearly demanded that petrol and diesel be brought under GST, so that there is transparency in fuel prices and transportation costs can be reduced. Also, toll tax rates should be reviewed and rationalized and One-Nation One-Toll or National Toll Permit system should be implemented in the entire country.

Need to stop corruption at toll plaza

The organization has also demanded a strict ban on unnecessary delays, extortion and corruption at toll plazas. He says that if the system improves, transportation will become easier and costs will reduce.

hope of controlling inflation

The association believes that reduction in transportation costs will reduce freight charges, which will directly benefit traders, industries and ultimately common consumers. This will also make it possible to effectively control inflation in the market.

Big expectations from Union Budget 2026-27

Rajendra Kapoor, President of All India Motor and Goods Transport Association, said that he is confident that if these demands are seriously considered in the Union Budget 2026-27, it will not only strengthen the transport industry but will also provide relief to the economic health of the country.
