Tamil Nadu News: In Tamil Nadu, 25,278 people were affected by dengue fever in 2025 and 10 people died. The Public Health Department has warned that the dengue outbreak will continue till February. During the rainy season, mosquitoes of the ‘Aedes – Aegypti’ species, which spread dengue fever, are breeding in large numbers and spreading the diseases. Due to this, the dengue outbreak was severe from July to October. During these months, more than 500 people were being affected every day in districts including Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode.
Due to sustained action taken jointly by the public health department and local bodies, the dengue outbreak has now reduced and is being recorded below 100 per day. At the same time, last year 46,927 people were affected by dengue, whereas this year the number of affected people has reduced to half. That means in the current year 2025, the number of people affected by dengue is only 25,278. Compared to last year, this outbreak has halved.
More outbreaks in urban areas
In this regard, Public Health Department officials said that last year 46,927 people were affected by dengue. Of these, 13 people had died. This year the outbreak of dengue was more during the rainy season. That is, from July to October, the outbreak was higher especially in urban areas compared to villages. Immediate medical camps were organized in dengue confirmed areas and the outbreak was prevented from spreading to others. As a result, the outbreak of dengue fever reduced. This year 25,278 people were affected by dengue. 10 of them have died.
6248 people affected by dengue in Chennai
Maximum 6,284 people were affected by dengue in Chennai, 2,094 in Tiruvallur, 1,882 in Coimbatore, 1,525 in Cuddalore. In other districts the outbreak has been confirmed in less than 1,000 people. At least 91 people have been affected in Karur and 103 people in Nilgiris. Compared to last year, the outbreak of dengue fever has been reduced by 50 percent. Currently, less than 100 cases are being detected.
113 people affected by dengue fever are under medical treatment in Chennai and suburban areas. The severity of the dengue outbreak has reduced, but the outbreak will continue in the months of January and February. Only after that it will start decreasing.
