Dense fog affects air flights in Delhi, more than 100 flights cancelled, more than 370 delayed

110 flights have been canceled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Also, news of delay in more than 370 flights has come to light. The reason for delay and cancellation of flights has been dense fog and low visibility. Airport officials said, ‘110 flights have been cancelled. These include 59 incoming and 51 outgoing flight services. Delays have been recorded in more than 370 flights. An average delay of 26 minutes has been recorded in all these flights.

DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited) said, operations are going on smoothly. IGI Airport usually handles around 1300 flights. This makes it more sensitive to weather related obstacles. Flight operations at many airports in Delhi and North India have been affected due to continuous fog for the last several days.

What did the Central Pollution Control Board tell?
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, ranking 386 has been recorded in the Air Quality Index on Sunday morning. The air quality remained worrisome across the city. Of these, 16 monitoring stations have recorded the AQI level in the severe category. Rest of the stations have reported very bad air.

According to CPCB rules, AQI reading between 0 to 50 is considered good. Between 51 to 100 is considered satisfactory. Between 101 and 200 is considered moderate. Between 201 to 300 is considered bad. Between 301 to 400 is considered very bad. Between 401 and 500 the condition is considered serious.

Weather conditions have further increased the challenges. The minimum temperature has been 9.4 degrees Celsius. This was 1.3 degrees more than the season’s average. IMD said that the maximum temperature is likely to be around 17 degrees Celsius. Yellow alert has been issued for moderate fog.

Snowfall and rain in upper areas
At least 11 flights have been canceled at Srinagar International Airport due to snowfall in the upper areas and rain in the plains. Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said, due to bad weather at Jammu and Delhi airports, two more flights scheduled for Srinagar have also been cancelled. Four flights are on standby on the airport apron. Flight operations will resume once the weather improves.
