Assembly elections are to be held in Tamil Nadu this year, before which an agreement has been reached on the seat sharing formula between the Congress and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress. DMK has offered 28 assembly seats to Congress, apart from this DMK has also agreed to give one Rajya Sabha seat to Congress.

Official announcement yet to be made

According to sources, seat sharing has been discussed in the meeting held between Congress leader P Chidambaram and DMK chief and Chief Minister MK Stalin, although it has not been officially announced yet. According to sources, a meeting took place between the two leaders on Wednesday (March 4). After which the matter was resolved. At the same time, after agreeing on the seat sharing formula, it has also become clear that in the upcoming assembly elections, both the parties will be seen contesting the elections in alliance.

Congress had contested on 25 seats in 2021

There are 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. In the assembly elections held in Tamil Nadu in the year 2021, Congress contested 25 seats, out of which it won 18. However, this time Congress had demanded 39 assembly seats, apart from this it had also demanded two Rajya Sabha seats. However, now as per the agreement reached between the leaders of both the parties, 28 seats have been offered to Congress, while talks have been held on one Rajya Sabha seat. This has been agreed upon between the two parties but an official announcement is yet to be made.

What did the Congress state president say on seat sharing?

Tamil Nadu Congress President K on DMK-Congress alliance. Selvaperunthagai said, ‘We got 28 seats. After 40 years we have got three additional seats and one seat in Rajya Sabha. So we are very happy. We are going to win more than 210 seats in the elections. This is an ideological alliance. Natural allies need this alliance. The people of Tamil Nadu need this alliance. The Chief Minister is very happy. I am also very happy. The party is very happy and the high command is also very happy. We have decided together to work with DMK for the next twenty-five years.”
