US President Donald Trump has threatened to intensify attacks on Iran’s oil export center located on Kharg Island. Trump has appealed to the affected countries to send warships to secure the Strait of Hormuz. On the other hand, Tehran has also said that the attacks will continue.
What did Donald Trump say now?
Trump said that the American attacks have completely destroyed most of Kharg Island and warned that further attacks may occur. “We can do some more attacks on it just for fun,” he told NBC News. Trump also said that Tehran appears willing to make a deal to end the conflict, but the terms are not yet good enough.
Donald Trump had earlier said that America had targeted only military bases in Kharg. The comments have also undermined diplomatic efforts, as the Trump administration has already rebuffed efforts by Middle Eastern allies to start talks aimed at ending the war, three sources familiar with the situation told Reuters.
Trump’s appeal to the countries of the world
Tehran’s ability to block shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil and gas transportation route, poses a serious problem for the US. Energy prices are skyrocketing as the war creates the largest ever disruption to oil supplies.
Trump wrote in a post on social media on Saturday, ‘Countries receiving oil from the Strait of Hormuz must ensure the security of that route and we will provide full assistance in this.’ He further wrote, ‘America will also coordinate with those countries so that everything can happen quickly and smoothly.’
Taking a tough stance, Iran has rejected the possibility of any ceasefire until the American and Israeli air strikes end. The US on Saturday issued a warning to American citizens to leave Iraq after the missile attack on the embassy in Baghdad on Friday night.
