As soon as this file entered the device, it took advantage of hidden flaws in the Kindle software. After this the hacker got complete access to the Amazon account which was linked to that Kindle.

This danger is similar to mobile apps
Cyber experts are comparing this threat to installing unofficial apps in mobile phones. Just as a dangerous APK can take complete control of your phone, an untested eBook can run harmful code on your Kindle. The problem is also serious because many users resort to sideloading for cheap or free ebooks, which makes this attack easier.
