Rupa married Dhrub Mukherjee in 1992, after which she said goodbye to acting. Rupa later revealed that her husband had pressurized her to leave acting and stay at home. He did not give them money for expenses. In such a situation, Rupa had to lend a helping hand to her husband even for her smallest needs. Due to this she became mentally quite disturbed. After living a suffocated life for 15 years, Roopa divorced Dhrub Mukherjee in 2007.
After that she fell in love with Bengali singer Dibyendu Mukherjee and started living in a live-in relationship. However, fate had other plans and this relationship also did not last long. Rupa saw many ups and downs in her personal life. After that she was broken from inside.
Rupa herself has confessed many times that she had tried to commit suicide thrice. Because of all these experiences, a deep insecurity had developed regarding men.
