People felt strong tremors in Gajularamaram and Matka Gudem areas of Telangana capital Hyderabad today at around 10:10 am on Tuesday (February 10, 2026). These tremors were initially thought to be earthquakes. However, CSIR-NGRI Director Dr. Prakash Kumar has clarified that there is no evidence of seismic activity for this. He said that this shock is not natural but man-made, which has happened due to breaking of rocks by blasting at nearby construction sites.
People present at the spot said how the ground started shaking with a huge noise, causing residents of many gated communities and apartments in the area to run out of their homes in panic. Fear and confusion were clearly visible in the eyes of the people. Many people told that they thought that a huge explosion had taken place, but when Dr. Prakash Kumar’s reaction came out, the whole matter became clear.
He said that no seismic wave was recorded on the seismograph, which proves that this is not a natural disaster but the result of blasting under the earth.
Cases of breaking rocks have increased in the past years
In fact, in the last few years, there has been rapid urbanization in the suburban areas of Hyderabad, especially in Medchal district. To build tall buildings on a large scale, explosives are being used in large quantities to break the rocks present inside the ground. Due to increasing cases of illegal mining and blasting done without standards, danger to common life is increasing.
Officials searching for the place of the blast
This is not the first time that such an incident has come to light, but today’s fear was so deep that people remained on the streets for hours. Officials are still investigating the matter at which place the blasting was done and whether permission was taken for it. At present, there is an atmosphere of fear among the people and they are demanding assurance from the government that such negligence should not happen in future and their safety should be ensured.
