The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team investigating the teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal has taken another major action. ED’s Kolkata Zone team has attached properties worth about Rs 57.78 crore. This property is said to be related to the assistant teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal.
ED says that this much money was earned through wrongful recruitment and then it was used to buy land, flats and villas. Those whose properties have been attached include MLA Jeevan Krishna Saha, Prasanna Kumar Roy and some others.
What was revealed in the ED investigation?
According to ED, these properties are in high-value areas of Kolkata like Rajarhat, New Town, Patharghata, Gargari and many surrounding areas. Apart from this, many lands and houses were also found in Murshidabad and Purba Bardhaman districts.
The investigation revealed that there were irregularities on a large scale in the recruitment of assistant teachers. SSC, which runs the recruitment process, made irregularities in everything from OMR sheets to personality tests and took money and gave jobs to wrong people. For this, cash was taken from many candidates and later it was converted into real estate by circulating it through companies and bank accounts.
Prasanna Kumar Roy is the biggest name in teacher recruitment scam.
The biggest name that has emerged in the investigation is Prasanna Kumar Roy, whom the ED has described as the main middleman of this scam. ED says that Roy and his people collected huge amount of money from many candidates and later bought property with the same money. Many properties have also been found in the name of Neelima Mangal, who is said to be his close friend and ex-wife.
Apart from this, the role of TMC MLA Jeevan Krishna Saha has also come to light. He allegedly used to collect this money and send it forward. ED had caught him during a search in Murshidabad in August 2025. Property worth about Rs 3 crore has been found in his and his family’s name, which the ED has termed as Proceeds of Crime.
ED has so far seized assets worth Rs 698 crore in recruitment scams in Bengal.
ED has already made many attachments in this case. Properties worth Rs 247.2 crore were attached in the Group C and D recruitment scam, Rs 238.78 crore in the assistant teacher scam and Rs 154 crore in the primary teacher scam. Adding the action taken so far, the total attachment has reached Rs 698 crore. This is a very big figure related to recruitment scams in the country.
Supreme Court has given a big decision in the matter
Before this, the Supreme Court has also given a big decision in this matter. On April 3, 2025, the Supreme Court had canceled the jobs of more than 25,000 teachers and non-teaching staff and said that the entire recruitment process was corrupt and unfairly conducted. After this decision, the seriousness of the scam became more clear and how big the money game was in it. ED has said that further investigation is still going on.
