Election Commission notice to cricketer Mohammed Shami regarding SIR, what is the reason?

Mohammed Shami: Cricketer Mohammed Shami was called for a hearing related to SIR (Special Intensive Revision) verification at a school in Jadavpur, Kolkata on Monday. But he was playing for the Bengal team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot that day, hence could not attend the hearing.

Officials said on Tuesday that both Mohammed Shami and his brother Mohammed Kaif were called for this hearing. Shami requested the Election Commission to give a new date, which has been accepted. Now his hearing will be held between January 9 and January 11. Mohammed Shami is a voter of ward number 93 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which comes under Rash Behari assembly constituency.

Chief Electoral Officer issued statement

An official of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office of West Bengal said that some mistakes were found in the enumeration form filled by Shami and his brother. For this reason both were called for verification hearing. Although Mohammed Shami is originally from Uttar Pradesh, but due to his cricket career, he has been living in Kolkata for many years. He came to Kolkata at an early age and trained here under the guidance of former Bengal Ranji captain Sambaran Banerjee. After this he made a place in the Under-22 team of Bengal.

This entire matter has come to light amid the ongoing special intensive revision campaign in West Bengal. Under this campaign the voter list is being corrected. In this process, notices have also been issued to many famous personalities like common voters. Apart from Mohammed Shami, names of actor and Trinamool Congress MP Dev, actor couple Laboni Sarkar and Kaushik Bandyopadhyay have also come up during this process or they have been called for hearing.

Election officials say that the objective of the SIR campaign is to improve the voter records and make them completely accurate. In this process, it is mandatory for all voters, whether common or associated with public life, to follow the verification rules.
