The Election Commission (ECI) has suspended 7 officials of West Bengal. The Election Commission has directed the Chief Secretary to immediately initiate disciplinary action against him. All these officers are accused of dereliction of duty and misuse of legal powers in relation to SIR.
The Election Commission, using its powers under Section 13 CC of the Representation of the People Act 1950, has suspended 7 officials with immediate effect for dereliction of duty and abuse of statutory powers, which is directly related to SIR.
Election Commission wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal
In several letters sent to West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandin Chakraborty on Sunday night, the Election Commission has ordered the immediate suspension of 7 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers from different districts. The cadre controlling authority has been asked to initiate disciplinary action without any delay and inform the commission about it.
Which officers have been suspended
Out of these 7 officers, 3 are posted in Murshidabad, 2 in South 24 Parganas and one each in West Medinipur and Jalpaiguri districts. The suspended officers include Dr Sefaur Rehman, Assistant Director of Agriculture Department in Murshidabad and AERO of 56-Samserganj Assembly Constituency, Farakka Revenue Officer and AERO of 55-Farakka Assembly Constituency Nitish Das and ADA of Suti Block and AERO of 57-Suti Assembly Constituency SK Murshid Alam.
Women Development Officer of Maynaguri Development Block and AERO Dalia Ray Chaudhary of 16-Maynaguri Assembly Constituency have also been suspended by the Election Commission. Satyajit Das and FEO Joydeep Kundu, both AEROs of 139-Canning Purbo assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas, and Debashish Biswas, joint BDO and AERO for 229-Debra assembly constituency in West Medinipur, have also been suspended.
