Election 2026 Full Schedule: The Election Commission (ECI) has declared the full schedule of elections for five states and union territories – West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on Sunday (15 March). Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were present in the press conference of the Election Commission held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
Voting will be held in two phases in West Bengal
Voting will be held in two phases for the assembly elections to be held in West Bengal, whereas last time voting was held there in 8 phases. At the same time, voting will be held in one phase in Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
When and where will voting take place?
Voting will be held in a single phase in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on 9 April. Voting will be held in Tamil Nadu on 23 April. Whereas in West Bengal elections will be held in two phases. Voting in the first phase will be held on 23 April while voting in the second phase will be held on 29 April.
When will the election results come?
The results of assembly elections in five states (West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry) will be announced on May 4. After the election schedule is released, code of conduct will also be imposed in these states.
Total 17.4 crore voters in five states
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that there are a total of 17.4 crore voters in the five states and union territories. Whereas the total number of seats here is 824. Regarding the elections, the Chief Election Commissioner said that mobile phones will not be allowed inside the polling station, it will have to be kept outside the polling station only. After casting their vote, voters will be able to take back their mobile.
The last time the election dates in all these 5 states were announced was on 26 February 2021. Then voting was held in 8 phases in West Bengal. Voting was held in three phases in Assam while voting was held in one phase in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly of these five states is ending in May.
