Elections 2026 Live: Political activity intensifies before the elections of 5 states including Bengal and Assam! Congress got a shock in this state, AAP also released the list

In India, assembly elections are going to be held in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry in the next few weeks. These four states and one union territory together have a huge influence on the politics of the country. West Bengal has the maximum number of 6.44 crore voters, who will cast their votes on 294 assembly seats. Elections here will be held in two phases. Voting dates have been fixed for April 23 and 29. Voting will take place in a single phase in the remaining states. Voting will be held in Tamil Nadu on 23 April, while in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, voting will be held on 9 April. The election results of all the states will be declared on May 4. The influence of the parties that win these elections will become stronger in both the country’s politics and Parliament.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party has released the second list of 6 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Assam state. Apart from this, Congress has suffered a big setback just before the elections in Assam. Nagaon Lok Sabha MP Pradyot Bordoloi has resigned from all posts and primary membership of the party. According to sources, he may join BJP on Wednesday (18 March 2026). It is being told that during this period, Assam BJP state president Dilip Saikia will also be present. This resignation has come at a time when the election atmosphere in the state is intense. In such a situation, this is being considered a big political blow for Congress.

About 20 crore people live in the 5 states of the country where elections are going to be held, which is about 17 to 18 percent of the total population of the country. 116 MPs are elected to the Lok Sabha from these states, which is about 21 percent of the total 543 seats. Apart from this, the MLAs of these states together send 51 members to the Rajya Sabha, which is about 21 percent of the total. Therefore, these elections directly affect the strength of the Parliament.
