Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has made a big revelation. He told that Sushmita Sen was not the first choice for the role opposite Shahrukh Khan in his directorial debut film ‘Main Hoon Na’ released in 2004.
Sameera Reddy was her first choice for Sushmita Sen’s classic role. Farah told this in her recent conversation with Sameera Reddy in her YouTube vlog. Farah said, “I saw you for the first time in the music video ‘Aahista Kiye Baatein’.
You were wearing Indian traditional clothes and were looking very beautiful. I thought that the role of Chandni in ‘Main Hoon Na’ would be perfect for you. Sameera Reddy was shocked at this revelation and asked Farah, “Oh God! Then why didn’t you take me?”
Farah replied that the situation had changed by then. He told, “Because you had done ‘Maine Dil Tujhko Diya’.” This film was Sameera’s Bollywood debut film with Sohail Khan in the year 2002. According to Farah, Sameera’s image and projects had changed at that time, hence the decision went in favor of Sushmita Sen.
Sameera was very happy at this revelation, but also looked a little disappointed. She said that she regretted this because ‘Main Hoon Na’ was one of the biggest hit films of that era. Shahrukh Khan is in the lead role in ‘Main Hoon Na’. In the film, Sushmita Sen played the character of Chandni, who is a college professor.
Her glamorous and elegant look in saree was liked by the audience very much and is remembered even today. The film was a super hit at the box office and proved to be a great start to Farah Khan’s directorial career. At the same time, Sameera Reddy has worked in films like ‘Darna Mana Hai’, ‘Musafir’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Race’ after ‘Maine Dil Tujhko Diya’.
She has distanced herself from mainstream cinema. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Sameera is living in Goa with her family and keeps coming and going to Mumbai when needed.
