Let us tell you that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has appointed South African legend Gary Kirsten as the coach of the men’s national team. The tenure of the new coach will start from April 15.

The African legend served as the head coach of India from 2008 to 2011. Meanwhile, Team India had won the title of 2011 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, he has also worked as white ball head coach for Pakistan. Between 2011 and 2013, he also worked as head coach for South Africa. Under Kirsten’s coaching, Africa also became the number one team in all three formats.

Gary Kirsten played the role of advisor for Namibia in the recently concluded 2026 T20 World Cup. Now it will be interesting to see how his tenure turns out for Sri Lanka. He has worked to take the teams to the top.

Gary Kirsten’s career

It is noteworthy that Gary Kirsten played 101 Tests and 185 ODIs for South Africa in his international career. In 176 innings of the Test, the African batsman scored 7289 runs at an average of 45.27. During this period, he scored 21 centuries and 34 half-centuries, in which the high score was 275. Apart from this, he scored 6798 runs in 185 innings of ODI at an average of 40.95. In this format, Kirsten scored 13 centuries and 45 half-centuries, in which the high score was 188*.
