Foreign Minister Jaishankar’s visit to Mauritius and UAE: Will meet top leaders

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a tour of Mauritius and UAE between April 9-12. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) that first Jaishankar will go to Mauritius and then UAE. Dr. S. in Mauritius Jaishankar will attend the 9th Indian Ocean Conference and will meet the top leadership of Mauritius to review all aspects of bilateral relations.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, “S. Jaishankar will address this conference, as well as meet and hold talks with his counterparts from different countries. This conference reflects India’s Neighborhood First Policy, Vision Ocean and commitment towards the Global South.”

After this, from April 11, the Foreign Minister will leave for a two-day official visit to UAE. Here too, we will meet the top leadership and review the mutual cooperation between the two countries so that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership can be further strengthened.

This conference is being organized by New Delhi-based think tank India Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Mauritius and the Ministry of External Affairs. The main theme of the conference has been kept as “Collective Responsibility for Good Governance of the Indian Ocean”. It will be organized from 10-12 April.

It is being organized since 2016. The objective of the conference is to promote security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), strengthen maritime trade, enhance economic cooperation, deal with climate change related impacts and formulate joint strategies for conservation of marine resources.

According to the India Foundation, over the last eight years this conference has become a major platform for the countries of the Indian Ocean region to discuss common issues. This conference has been working to bring partner countries on a common platform to discuss the possibilities of cooperation for regional security and development.

The announcement of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar’s UAE visit came just hours after the US and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire.

In a statement, the MEA reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are necessary to end the conflict. It said that the West Asia conflict has caused suffering to people and disrupted the global energy supply.
