Gautam Gambhir created history by winning the third World Cup, left MS Dhoni behind

T20 World Cup Winner: India has won the T20 World Cup 2026 title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs. Batting first, Team India scored a historic score of 255 runs, which was the highest score made by any team in the final of the T20 World Cup. In response, the New Zealand team never came close to becoming champion. On one hand, Suryakumar Yadav became the World Cup winning captain for the first time as a captain, on the other hand, Gautam Gambhir has created history by winning his third World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir won his third World Cup

Gautam Gambhir has now gone ahead of MS Dhoni in terms of winning the most World Cups for India. Gautam Gambhir was a part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup winning team. He played a match-winning inning of 75 runs in the final match against Pakistan. After that Gambhir was also in Team India which won the 2011 ODI World Cup. This time too Gambhir shone in the final, where he played an innings of 97 runs.

Gambhir and Dhoni have won two World Cups each as players. But now Gambhir has also won a World Cup as a coach. Overall, Gautam Gambhir has now overtaken MS Dhoni in terms of winning the most World Cup trophies.

India won by 96 runs

When the Indian team came to bat first, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma created havoc and scored 92 runs in just 6 overs. Abhishek scored fifty in 18 balls, which was the fastest fifty in the history of T20 World Cup final. Abhishek contributed 52 runs and Ishan Kishan also contributed 54 runs. In bowling, Jasprit Bumrah’s 4 wickets and Akshar Patel’s 3 wickets also contributed a lot to India’s historic victory.
