There has been a shortage of memory chips for some time and their prices are increasing rapidly. Due to this, now mobile companies will reduce the RAM, so that the price of the phone can be kept low.
Why is there shortage of memory chips?
AI is the biggest player behind the shortage of memory chips. In fact, chip manufacturing companies like Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron are now making high-bandwidth AI chips, which are used in data centers. Due to this, the production of consumer memory chips i.e. chips used in smartphones, tabs and laptops etc. has reduced. Micron has stopped making consumer memory chips and now it is only making chips used in AI. Due to this there was a shortage and their prices started touching the sky.
Will the 4GB RAM segment make a comeback?
It is being said in the reports that due to shortage and expensive price of memory chips, companies will be forced to return to 4GB RAM segment again. In such a situation, only 4GB RAM can be seen in the base variants of most entry-level and mid-range smartphones. However, it is not that companies will not launch phones with more RAM, but this option can be seen only in premium smartphones.
From phones to smartphones will be expensive
In the next few days, the prices of products using memory chips like desktops, laptops and smartphones etc. are sure to increase. Samsung has recently indicated that it may increase the prices of its devices in India. Similarly, laptop manufacturing company Dell says that the prices of its products may increase by 15-20 percent.
