The story of this famous search engine starts from Stanford University in 1995. Two students studying here, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, thought of creating a new system to better search the information available on the Internet. In the beginning, the thinking of both of them was different on many matters and they often argued, but gradually their different thinking turned into a strong partnership. This partnership later created the world’s largest search engine.

When both the students were working on this project sitting in their hostel rooms, they created a search system that analyzed the links between websites. That is, the popularity and importance of a website was estimated by how many other sites were linked to it. Because this system used to analyze backlinks, this search engine was initially named Backrub.
