‘Government is confused somewhere’, opposition angry at Modi government after ban on new UGC rules, know what they said?

The new rules of the University Grant Commission (UGC) have been banned. The Supreme Court, while giving its verdict on the new rules of UGC on Thursday (January 29), has immediately put a stay on the new guidelines. After this decision of the Supreme Court, now the opposition is attacking the Modi government. SP leaders are raising questions on the government.

SP MP Pushpendra Saroj, while talking to ABP News today, said that what is the pressure of the government on the Supreme Court, due to which it has been rolled back today. He said that the way Samajwadi Party is fighting the battle of PDA in Uttar Pradesh. It was considered a big step somewhere, but today it has been rolled back.

‘The government is confused somewhere’

Attacking the Modi government, the SP MP said that I would like to tell the government that it itself is confused as to whom it should stand with. Our National President Akhilesh Yadav has also said that action should be taken only against the culprits as per the rules and it should be ensured that the innocent are not implicated. We should work under these rules. In such a situation, Samajwadi Party is completely standing with PDA.

What did the Congress MP say?

On this matter, Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan said that we welcome the decision of the Supreme Court but it was definitely a matter of concern on which we all should consider responsibly.

Next hearing on March 19

The Supreme Court postponed UGC’s ‘Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations 2026’, terming it vague and prone to misuse. CJI Surya Kant’s bench said that this rule needs to be clarified. Till then the old UGC rules of 2012 will remain applicable. The court issued a notice to the central government and fixed the next hearing on March 19.
