‘Government stands with Defense Forces, will continue taking necessary steps’, PM Modi said while referring to the Defense Budget

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday (15 February 2026) that his government is emphasizing on strengthening the defense sector. In the budget presented on February 1, India increased its defense budget by 15 percent. PM Modi said that the government stands strongly with the Defense Force and will take every necessary step to make it strong and advanced.

Government’s duty to advance defence: PM Modi

PM Modi said, ‘Our government has a commitment to the Defense Forces and we have fulfilled it. In an interview given to news agency PTI, PM Modi said, ‘In view of the current circumstances, it is the duty of our government to advance the defense. This is the reason why the defense budget has been increased. For the current financial year, the Government of India has increased the defense budget from Rs 6.81 lakh crore to Rs 7.85 lakh crore.

PM Modi said that no budget of his government was made with the mindset of preparing a general ledger document, because this is not our vision. Recalling the ‘This is the time, the right time’ announcement made from the ramparts of the Red Fort a few years ago, the Prime Minister said that the feeling of ‘now is the time’ has always been present in his government. He said, ‘But today this feeling has become a national commitment and the resolve of the entire society. A new confidence has arisen in our nation.

PM Modi said, ‘Even in this era of different types of challenges, our national character has shown its identity and we are a bright example of development even in difficult global circumstances.’ He said, ‘We have a young and skilled population and we are focused on strong growth with low inflation and macroeconomic stability. Our youth are showcasing their talent in diverse fields like space, sports and startups.
