It is often said about former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra that if MS Dhoni had not been there, he might have got more success in his career. Such claims have been coming up many times that MS Dhoni used to show more trust in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja during his captaincy days. That’s why Amit Mishra could not achieve much success in his career. The former Indian leg-spinner has spoken openly on this subject.
If Dhoni was not there…
In conversation with Men’s XP, Amit Mishra said, “People say that if Dhoni had not been there, I would have got more success in my career, but who knows that if it had not been for Dhoni, perhaps I would have never joined the Indian team. I came to the team under his captaincy and kept coming back. He also agreed with this, so I kept coming back to the team. Things can also be seen in a positive light.”
Not getting continuous opportunities was the reason due to which Amit Mishra’s career could not write a new success story. Despite this, whenever he got a chance, he gave a strong performance. He has 76 wickets in his name in his 22 Test match career. In 36 ODI matches, he took 64 wickets at an excellent bowling average. He took 16 wickets in 10 T20 matches.
Dhoni helped me
Amit Mishra also told that Dhoni had helped him while playing international cricket. He said, “I got his full support. Whenever I played in the playing eleven, it was not that he never helped me. He always kept telling me things. I was playing against New Zealand, which was my last ODI series, Dhoni used to be the captain. It was a close match. We had scored 260-270 runs, I came to bowl and tried to stop the runs, not take wickets.”
Amit Mishra further said, “I am not bowling the way I do naturally. He advised me not to think too much and bowl naturally. I did the same and got the wicket. He said this is your bowling, do it like that and don’t think too much. That proved to be a game changing spell.”
