The political temperature reached its peak in the Telangana Assembly on Monday (January 5, 2026), when the opposition parties fiercely targeted the state government. During this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assembly leader Eleti Maheshwar Reddy, sitting in the opposition, and Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) from the other side, made sharp remarks at each other. The BJP leader used satire in the House, targeting the government, while the AIMIM leader was discussing the issue of irrigation.
What did the BJP leader say in the assembly?
During the proceedings of the House, BJP Assembly leader and MLA Eleti Maheshwar Reddy made a funny but sharp comment while questioning the attitude of the Speaker. He said, ‘Speaker Sir, when we raise questions, you ring the bell to silence us, but when my sherwani-clad friend sitting next to us speaks, the bell never rings.’
He said sarcastically, ‘If it is so, then from tomorrow we will also come to the House wearing Sherwani.’ The BJP leader made this comment pointing towards the alleged closeness between the ruling party and AIMIM.
Akbaruddin’s counterattack on BJP leader’s comment
After this, countering the remarks of BJP leader Eleti Maheshwar Reddy, AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi also gave a sharp reaction in the Assembly. He said, ‘No-no, don’t worry sir! Don’t worry! There is no need for you to wear sherwani. You do only one thing. Pointing towards the Speaker of the House, he said, Sir, I will tell him only one thing that he is the champion of Hindutva. I feel proud in wearing Sherwani, you just come with tilak on your forehead, Sir gives a lot of time.
He further said, ‘Don’t wear sherwani. What will you say if you wear Sherwani? You are AIMIM’s B-team, so don’t wear that. We are called B-team, but then they say that Telangana BJP is the B-team of AIMIM. You wait a bit.
