Hindustan Copper: Why has it increased so much?
The story of Hindustan Copper is somehow related to silver because silver is also a by-product for Hindustan Copper. When lead, zinc and copper are mined, silver is also extracted and the way we are seeing the stormy rise in silver, Hindustan Copper got support somewhere. The second reason is that this year there was a lot of turmoil regarding supply. Supply has derailed in Indonesia. The supply from Chile, which is the largest producer, has been disrupted and all these things have supported copper.
Indonesia’s mine is Grasberg. There was a landslide there and till now the production has not started from there as it should be, which is affecting it.
Chile is the world’s largest copper producer. Chile alone extracts all the copper in the world through mining (about more than 25%). There has been a huge impact on production there. Production there has been downgraded and it will take time for the situation to return to normal. So these things are supporting copper.
One more thing – the way interest rates have decreased in America or we have seen that interest rates are expected to decrease in future also. The dollar has weakened a bit. Support is coming from these things also. At present it does not seem that the rally will stop here soon. Leading brokerage JP Morgan is bullish on copper prices. He estimates that copper prices will reach ₹ 12,500 per tonne because the supply is getting disrupted again and again.
If we talk about copper prices, there has been a huge rise of around 50 to 55% in the international market this year and if you look at MCX, you will see a tremendous bullish environment there too. So these are all the reasons due to which we are seeing this momentum.
What should investors do?
In a special conversation with ET NOW Swadesh, market expert Kunal Parar said that after the stock rising so much, investors must be taking some profit. He said that in the trend we have seen that when a stock moves up so fast, its correction or corrective phase also starts and the correction also happens at the same speed.
Experts said that you can book part profits from higher levels such as 10% or 20% of the crushed holdings. This would be a good strategy, and absolutely the right strategy. When you make so much money, then you actually come into the market with the sole purpose of making money. And if the money doubles by one and a half times in a month, then one should not think too much. You must do part profit taking.
