AI: The discussion has once again intensified regarding Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants living in India. The Maharashtra government has made preparations to take the help of Artificial Intelligence to deal with this challenge. According to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a special AI tool is being developed to identify Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants living illegally in the state, which can play a big role in the future.
Tool is being prepared in collaboration with IIT Bombay
This AI tool is being prepared in collaboration with the country’s prestigious institute IIT Bombay. At present its accuracy is said to be around 60 percent, that is, it is able to identify correctly in six out of every ten cases. The government hopes that by further improving this technology in the next four months, its accuracy will be achieved almost completely. After this, illegal immigrants will be identified more effectively.
Network of fake documents will become target
Speaking in a TV programme, the Chief Minister said that illegal immigrants often first enter India through West Bengal. After this, they prepare fake documents and spread to different parts of the country and start taking benefits of government schemes. This is the reason why technology based solutions became necessary to deal with this problem. He also told that a large number of people who were living here with the help of fake documents have already been expelled from Mumbai.
How will AI system identify
This AI tool will work like an advanced computer program, which will be capable of analyzing data like the human brain. Through mobile data, available records and other technical inputs, it will help the police and administration in identifying people. Right now this technology is working on a limited level, but as its data and algorithms become stronger, its ability to identify will also increase.
Action has already been taken from Mumbai
According to the Chief Minister, many such cases have already come to light in Mumbai where people who came from Bangladesh were not only living under false documents but were also taking advantage of government schemes. After implementation of AI tool, it will become easier to control such cases and law and order will be strengthened.
People of other states do not need to panic
Devendra Fadnavis made it clear that due to this initiative, there is no need to be afraid of people coming to work in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, from other states. All citizens living legally are completely safe. He also said that the government aims to make Mumbai a modern, sustainable and better city, in which work is also being done to reduce problems like traffic jams.
