Middle East Tensions: Due to the ongoing conflict and tension between Israel, America and Iran in the Middle East, many countries of the world have also been affected. Till now, thousands of attacks have been carried out in Iran by America and Israel through missiles and attack drones. In which several thousand people have lost their lives so far. Meanwhile, the Government of India on Thursday (April 2, 2026) has given information about the Indian citizens who returned safely to the country from Iran.
The central government said that amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, India has so far safely evacuated more than 1,200 Indian citizens from Iran through Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Embassies in both the countries are working for the return of citizens: MEA
Addressing an inter-ministerial press briefing on Thursday (April 2, 2026), External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India is using the route of Armenia and Azerbaijan to evacuate its citizens from Iran and out of the 1,200 Indian citizens evacuated from Iran so far, 845 are students.
He said, ‘Out of the people stranded in Iran, 996 Indians have reached Armenia and 204 have reached Azerbaijan, where the Ministry of External Affairs is continuously helping them. Indian embassies in both the countries are continuously working with local authorities to ensure the safe return of citizens. He stressed that all necessary arrangements have been made to help the people evacuated in transit before being brought back to India and they are being helped.
PM Modi talks with global leaders on international developments
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently talking to leaders of countries around the world regarding the ongoing tension in the Middle East as well as other international developments. In this sequence, PM Modi has talked to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia on March 28, 2026. Both the leaders discussed the ongoing tension in West Asia and during this, PM Modi condemned the attacks on the energy infrastructure of the Gulf region.
