‘How will you become a doctor with such a face’, new twist in the suicide case of dental student, mother made allegations

Bengaluru News: Now a new turn has been taken in the case of suicide of 23 year old dental student Yashaswini B in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. Yashaswini had committed suicide by hanging herself. Now, a few days after the incident, her mother has accused six college lecturers of instigating her daughter to commit suicide.

Zero FIR registered, case against six lecturers

Based on the complaint by Yashaswini’s mother Pramila, the Suryanagar police of Bengaluru rural district has registered a zero FIR, which has been transferred to the Bommanahalli police.

Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death. However, on Sunday, she filed a fresh complaint alleging continuous harassment by some lecturers of Oxford Dental College on Hosur Road, following which a fresh case was registered.

On the basis of his complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of BNS. The names of lecturers Dr. Anmol, Dr. Alba, Dr. Shabana, Dr. Faika, Dr. Sindhu and Dr. Sushmini are included in the FIR.

He blamed himself in the suicide note

Yashaswini had left a suicide note, in which she had said that she herself was responsible for her death and no one could be blamed. This letter was sent to FSL (Foreign Standards Service Department) to ascertain whether the handwriting was his or not.

Despite what was written in the note, Pramila insisted that her daughter had been facing constant harassment and humiliation by teachers for the past one year.

Allegations of insults in class, comments on color and dress

She claimed that Yashaswini was often scolded for arriving a few minutes late to class and comments were also allegedly made about the way she dressed.

When Yashaswini did not respond to these comments, teachers allegedly gave her low marks in seminars. Yashaswini had many times told at home about the pain and humiliation she faced in college.

Pramila further said that on January 8, a day before her death, Yashaswini suffered eye pain and left the class. When she reached college the next day, she was allegedly insulted in front of her classmates and also questioned about the medicines she had taken.

The complaint also alleges that lecturers made comments about Yashaswini’s skin color and even asked why she was thinking of becoming a doctor “with this face”.
